Zagreb 18-19 November

We had a car to ourselves for most of the train trip to the capital of Croatia.

We felt appropriately dressed here, unlike Italy where everyone wears beautiful camel coloured quality long, tailored wool belted wrap coats and sleek trench coats Everyone in Zagreb seemed to have jeans and a puffer jacket on.

It was a 6 min walk to our airbnnb which was so nice and secure. I don’t think I’ve mentioned how these European places have 3 locks on their solid steel doors. This airbnb was pretty cool in that the kitchen could kind of fold away and out again.

However! very noisy with the trams turning into our street. Sounded like an earthquake at times.

A terrible sleep, just dozing all night really. Thank goodness we were only there one night

The next morning, we walked to the station to drop off our luggage since there were some hours between having to check out and needing to catch our next train. We had a terrible time trying to get the lockers to work and most of them were out of order and beggers asking us for money.  Also people smoke in the station! And in shopping malls and later, even on the train! Anyway we eventually realised we needed to exchange coins for tokens so finally put our luggage in the lockable storage and explored, seeing more beautiful architecture and experiencing a laid back vibe. It was the coldest weather we’ve experienced since arriving in Europe In fact I think the whole region hit a cold snap so the day before Zagreb had a high of 19 but the day we were there it was a high of 6 but we can’t complain because a few days after we were there, snow and stormy weather caused havoc in the city.

Anyway the weather didn’t stop us from discovering a gorgeous cafe called Salo where we had beautifully made organic Croatian food before heading back to the train station to collect our luggage

Next our month long stay in Split, Croatia!
